We are excited to announce the new RTLED 2×2 fixtures are installed in our offices. The first impressions have been fantastic. The fixtures are installed in the quotes room and perform in a very similar manner to their fluorescent predecessors. You cannot tell the at the light source is LED, the shielding is fantastic. Please come by and take a look for yourself.

Welcome to the new Spectrum Lighting Blog. When we were approached about setting up this blog, my first task was to figure out what a blog was.
Wikipedia defines it as follows:
blog (a contraction of the term “web log“)[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
So with that exercise behind me, it’s time to start blogging.
We want to develop this as a venue to discuss current lighting trends, share success stories, and promote new products.
The hottest topic in lighting today is the emergence and growth of LED fixtures. LED’s are now viewed as a viable source for many applications. The source has moved from simple exit signs with exposed LED’s outlining the letters of a sign, to architectural downlights, to site lighting fixtures capable of lighting parking lots to the same foot-candle levels as metal halide. As the lumens per watt ratios continue to improve, LED fixtures have become increasing viable. Several years ago, only a handful of companies were pioneering the use the new technology, today Spectrum represents over 40 manufacturers offering LED lighting fixtures covering a broad array of lighting segments.
You may have read that Acuity has partnered with Samsung LED to develop and market a series of solid-state lighting instruments. One of the most exciting will be the RTLED 2×2 recessed fixture. The RT5 series has been a tremendous success for Acuity and has become the fixture of choice for many of today’s sustainable designs. Incorporating a digital light engine into the volumetric design of the RT5 was a logical step. Look for the 2×2 to be released this spring with a 2×4 by year’s end. The Samsung platform will make this a fantastic option for office lighting. Early projections have the RTLED 2×2 delivering over 3000 lumens to the workplane while consuming less than 45 watts. The digital nature of the light engine makes on-board controls a natural. The fixtures will have 0-10v control as a standard. You will also see the n-Light technology from Sensor Switch become an integrated component. It is a very exciting time in our industry, things that have been very complicated and difficult to install in years past, will now become standard on-board features of these new offerings. Digital platforms will not only change your lighting designs, but also your controls strategy. As the watts per square foot requirement continue to become more stringent, and the call for more sustainable design grows louder, Acuity is stepping up to offer the market realistic solutions.
We hope to have our RTLED demo space installed soon. Please don’t hesitate to contact your Spectrum Lighting Salesperson for more information.
I hope you have enjoyed our first blog entry. Please feel free to send us your questions and comments.
